I’ve heard it over and over before, “Be thankful and express gratitude.” Although I’ve heard it and have given it time to sink in many moments before, I have come to the conclusion that it is sometimes easier said than done to be thankful. Life can be very challenging and in some instances we don’t even have the energy to be thankful.
But just as it can be challenging, life can be absolutely beautiful if we sit and really think about it.
Gratitude is something that takes time, but once grasped, it can really have an amazing impact on our lives. When we really think about it, life could be a lot worse than we sometimes make it out to be. This is not to attach the concept of life to negativity, but truth be told, the situations of other people can really make us thankful for the life we are currently living.
Here are 10 things to be thankful for today.
- Your sight
Thank you God for sight. With our eyes we can see the beauty of the earth, the sight of our loved ones, our faces in the mirror, and everything else that comes with life. Some people can’t, be thankful.
2. Your tea or coffee in the morning
It’s a random thought, but I always embrace the moments I get to sip my tea or coffee. These moments for me are times when I can just unwind and forget about the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy the taste of freshly brewed coffee or tea with the perfect temperature. Homey moments always make life amazing. If you ever feel stressed or need some well needed me time, visit a coffee shop, it’s literally the most soothing environment yet.
3. Your health
I’m not sure if anyone has had perfect health to date (if so, hats off to you), but if you are able to get up and go where you need to and are functioning like you should be, you are blessed
4. The chance to go to school or even learn.
Not everyone has the chance to go to school and get an education. Education means power and also gives you the opportunity to really delve into knowledge and get a taste of what you’ve been missing. If you aren’t in school, don’t sweat it. Be thankful you are in an age where the internet is the source for practically anything. There are documentaries, Ted-talks, YouTube videos, and more. The list can go on and on. You have a brain which means knowledge is attainable.
5. Good food (I know, back at it with the treats again)
I’m not sure if anyone else feels the same way, but food makes me happy af. I love to eat and get dressed up to go to a fancy restaurant and indulge in all the foods and desserts I’ve yet to try. Food makes you feel good and it damn sure tastes good as well. I’m thankful!
6. Friends and family
You may have a lot of friends or you may have only a few, but having at least one person to talk to and confide in can make your journey a lot less lonely. Family, whether it be just your mom, your dad, or your grandma maybe, you have someone who loves and cares about you and who makes your life more comfortable than it could be. They may help with school finances, bills, or in providing a roof over your head. That is something to be thankful for.
7.Surviving your worst moment
We’ve all had times where life just seemed so bad that we never thought it got better. But because life and time always keeps moving and changing, there is always a chance for a better day. You survived your worst moments yet. You are a lot stronger than you think.
8. Moments to have fun, travel, read, or do absolutely nothing.
Any moment where I can just bask in the goodness of life just makes me feel amazing inside and truly thankful to be alive. I’m a twenty-something so I have so much more to learn and explore when it comes to life. I anticipate travelling all by my lonesome, catching up on new reads, and trying out new things so I can become a more interesting and attuned to everything around me.
9. Your talents and accomplishments
Everyone is good at at least one thing. There is something about you that is alluring and makes you truly unique from any other person. Talents and accomplishments are also things to be proud of because who doesn’t want to feel good about themselves? Have you finally graduated from college? Have you started that blog you were thinking of for years? One great thing can lead to many great things. Also, our inner talents and abilities are our own.
10. Another day
Finally, let’s be thankful for another day. Another day to get things right, to learn from our mistakes, and to complete the chapters to our journeys.
